Resisting the Patriarchy, 2025, oil on ACM panel, 565x55cm

Finalist, Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award Finalist, Lethbridge Gallery, Brisbane, 2025

Resisting the Patriarchy is a self-portrait that captures Brand defying the grasp of the past—hands that seek to hold her back, harm her, and mould her into something she refuses to become. Through this work, Brand confronts the lingering weight of patriarchal systems, painting both their violence and their persistence. She believes that only by naming and exposing these structures—how they manifest in our everyday lives—can we begin the urgent work of dismantling them.
